We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex & Jenn Slayton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex & Jenn, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.

I think everybody takes risks daily without ever realizing it. It seems that we only recognize the existence of risk when we begin to understand the weight of reward or loss. I personally like to measure the outcome and its value based on what I can and cannot live without. Risks play a major role in our business, for that matter in any business. Without taking an educated risk, we would never achieve lofty goals. However, we have to realize at some point the risk will result in a loss and in business we ask, “Can we overcome this?” If the answer is yes then we make plans to push forward and weigh options for our next win.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Gulf Coast Pixel has had the opportunity to work with amazing clients over the past 3 years. We believe we have 3 things that set us apart. Prior to starting our business we invested in our education and worked with clients & corporations individually to learn more about our respective fields. Our agency is built on solid education. Next, we have processes in place that allow our clients to understand each step of their project and relax as we get the work done. Communication & expectations from the beginning set everyone at ease. Finally, we believe in carefully crafted, strategic content. Whether a website, social media or any other digital marketing, visuals & words play the most important role. We achieve great results for our clients from executing a strategic plan through deep research on the details.

We have been honored to be featured in VoyageHouston, Top 40 of Houston StartUps List, and Nerdy Girl Success virtual conference. The road to where we are hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth it. We have had many hurdles in the last 3 years of business, but our mindset has been our biggest reason to overcome challenges. As the saying goes, “Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re right.” We have stepped out of comfort zones. We have pushed forward when things got tough. But most of all, we have changed our mindset to make things work. Gulf Coast Pixel will always be in the corner fighting for our clients to win! Our joy is found in business when our clients reach goals, take it to the next level, and win big or small. We have the opportunity to be a part of those successes and don’t take that role lightly. We will continue to strive & perfect the way we do business because our clients’ businesses matter to us.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Let’s say you come to visit in March, the first item on the itinerary would be RodeoHouston. We would love to show you what we believe to be the heart of our city. Some of our favorite places to eat would include Ray’s Mexican Restaurant, Sushi Neato, and Star Pizza. For some good coffee, let’s head over to Summer Moon. If the weather is good, we could hang out at No Label Brewery, Karbach or 8th Wonder and enjoy some ice-cold beers. At some point, we’d plan to go to Kirby’s Ice House and Armadillo Palace.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

We know our success is not our own. We have been privileged to be surrounded by amazing friends, family, mentors, colleagues & other business owners. Our shout out belongs to the I Am Katy Networking group. We believe this group of business owners have not only cheered us on, but have been a source of support when life isn’t easy.
